Then Sierra started putting out cheat guides. 4 colors my friends! And it was glorious. And my experience was on CGA graphics - not even EGA. Each accomplishment and each new discovery was more exciting than when the pretty girl had to sit next to you on the bus because there were no other seats left. I spent nearly two years getting through that game. At night I would dream that I had a job shoveling out the stables, or collecting herbs for the healer. I read those so much over the next few months I nearly wore them out. It came with some small books to really get you into the world of the game before you even started playing it. look at that! Who doesn't want to play THAT? :DĪs my dad drove us home I remember opening the box and us cracking up that it had 10 (read that - TEN) 5.25 disks! That game must be huge!! I went browsing at Electronics Boutique looking for a new game and the cover just jumped out at me! I mean. :)Everything about that game pulled me in. Felt ridiculous then, still feels ridiculous to this day. Bonus points if you know why they had to rename it to Quest For Glory. Because of that stupid board game that was called Hero Quest. Space Quest and Hero's Quest/Quest for Glory, FTW. That's awesome you ran a BBS back in the day, and your story gives you the right to tell everyone that you were getting hacked "before it was cool." Only then would my parents shell out the money for an upgrade :) :)I too had a 2400 baud modem to start out with! I think we were still on the IBM XT-compatible system back then though, until my brother somehow managed to fry the motherboard while trying to clean it. Had to pull the phone line out of the wall to stop them. Sat there and watched the user move around through the menus and somehow they got into files they were not allowed in. I could not believe the speed I got when I finally bought a US Robotics 14.4 modem.Īctually had my Renegade BBS hacked one time. I ran a Telegard BBS and then a Renegade BBS from a 286 in my parents basement in the early 90s. Liked the fact that accessing one wouldn't infect your computer, wipe the drive or demand payment :) MSouthworth wrote:Ran a couple of BBS back then.
